Parrot is probably best known for its awesome drones. However, the company has also been making brilliant wireless headphones. The company launched its first Zik headphone way back in 2012 and in 2014. Recently, the company also announced the launch of the new Zik 3.0 on the local market and Parrot sent us the Bluetooth headphones for a review.
So what's new with the Zik 3.0 headphones? For one, the company seems to have perfected all the design and software bugs that plagued the Zik 2.0. In terms of design though, the Zik 3.0 looks similar to its predecessor, the Zik 2.0. In terms of improvements, the company has added a couple of tiny tweaks to the Zik 3.0 headphone, such as the wireless charging and USB audio making it future-ready.
What's more, it also comes with its own app and its own equalisers. So effectively, the Zik 3.0 allows you to set different levels of noise cancellation as well as noise control. We tested the noise cancellation capabilities of the Parrot Zik 3.0 and we were surprised. The noise cancellation capabilities on the Zik 3.0 rival those available on better known headphone brands out there on the market.
The Zik 3.0 headphones also come with most of the features available on the earlier iterations, including a capacitive touchpad on the ear cup, motion detection so music stops when you take them off, and of course the awesome noise canceling, as mentioned before. The touch sensitive controls are an added bonus. You swipe to the right on the ear pad in order to play the next song and swipe to the left to play the previous one. You tap on the ear pad in order to pause the song or answer a phone call.
In terms of connectivity, the Zik 3.0 offers Bluetooth 3.0 wireless connectivity and the ability to connect via 3.5mm to your devices or USB to your computer. The Bluetooth connection is strong and the overall sound quality delievred through the headphones was quite good. When it comes to phone calls, the Zik 3.0 works better than the Zik 2.0 or just about any other wireless headphones when it comes to making and answering calls.
And when it comes to battery life, we were able to clock around 8 hours of battery backup on the Zik 3.0. We have had some wireless headphones offer around 20 hours of battery life, and so the battery life on the Zik 3.0 is quite on the lower side. However, these other headphones didn't have their own equalisers, noise cancellation levels, and other features that hog up on a lot more battery life.
Also, unlike other wireless headphones, the Zik 3.0 has a battery that is replaceable and can be charged using a wireless Qi charger. Having said that however, if you wire the headphones and use only ANC without Bluetooth, Parrot does claim that the headphones can last you around 18 hours.
All in all, Parrot might have a blockbuster on its hand as long as potential customers do not care about the expensive $500 price tag. But then, if you are on the market and looking for a pair of wireless headphones that offer amazing sound quality, noise cancellation, style and comfort, the Zik 3.0 headphones should definitely be on your shopping list.
